The department has its interventions to provide access to education to the most under privileged segment of the population of Punjab.Sustainable Development Goals of United Nations which in Goal No. 04(SDGs regarding education) advocates that Pakistan must ensure all girls & boys to acquire free, equitable & quality primary education by 2030. Child Rights Convention, of United Nations which in Article 28 espouse importance of free and compulsory primary level education.To join the fight against illiteracy and campaign for a better future across the Punjab by providing basic education to the illiterates
volunteers.

Literacy & Non-Formal Basic Education Department (L&NFBED) is a department of Government of Punjab, Pakistan. The department was created to address the problem of dropouts at the primary level and meet the emerging demand for Non-Formal Basic Education with functional Literacy and livelihood skills. The department was established to achieve the goal of 100% literacy rate of Punjab by the year 2030.

The department is working in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency and UNICEF
