About Department:
The prosecution service has been established under an Act of the Provincial Assembly known as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Prosecution Service (Constitution, Functions and Powers) Act, 2005. Prosecution is performing multiple duties and also an important component of criminal administration of justice system. Its basic object to ensue safer communities through effective prosecution services that bring the offender to book and ameliorate illegalities and excesses suffered by the innocent.The provision of justice to its citizens is the first and foremost responsibility of the State and thus one of the basic functions of the Government. The purpose of criminal justice system is to protect the rights of citizens and vulnerable and punish those guilty of committing crimes. To achieve the ends of justice it has to be ensured that no innocent person is punished and no culprit should go scot-free from punishment being awarded. The criminal justice system comprises of mainly three functions to achieve this objective: Investigation, prosecution and Adjudication. If anyone of the three systems is weak criminals play with lives and property of the peaceful citizens.
