The Higher Education Commission (HEC) will distribute approximately 200,000 laptops in Phase IV and V to students of public sector universities and degree-granting institutions under the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme.
The deadline to apply for laptops is Monday, September 30, according to HEC sources.
As this was the last year of the current government, it has been decide to distribute the remaining 200,000 laptops in 2022-23.
Now the government has decided to distribute 200,000 laptops in the last year of its rule to meet the target of 500,000 laptops in four years. Initially these laptops were distribute among the public sector universities and later colleges and technical colleges were also include in this scheme.
Similarly, initially only PhD and M.Phil students were selected for this scheme, later BS level students were also given laptops. When the scheme was launched, distance education universities were not a part of it, while later Allama Iqbal Open University and Virtual University were also selected for the scheme.
